We’re a family business – the Sheaves family has lived at Cuckoo Down Farm since 1959.
Our farm has five fields, all with tall oak-tree filled hedges. There’s a pretty stream and a three acre oak wood to explore. Look out for swallows, foxes, rabbits, badgers, deer and owls.
Here, you really can chill out in peace and quiet. You’re a mile from the nearest road and 300 yards from our farmhouse. We have just two yurts which share the 30-acre farm, so you can enjoy privacy and truly get away from it all.
We’ve had a lot of fun furnishing the yurts with a mixture of modern comforts and antique French and Oriental furniture. They each have a mixture of proper double beds and genuinely comfortable sofa beds. They’re cosy and very cool.
We have a great village shop with a butcher, bakery and Post Office within walking distance in West Hill. We are three miles from the historic town of Ottery St Mary (birthplace of Samuel Taylor Coleridge) with pubs, nice cafes, chemist, bookshop, fish and chip shop and Indian restaurant.
Each yurt sleeps up to six but is great for just a couple too. All bedlinen is provided. This is very much a low carbon footprint, eco holiday. Our yurts do not have electricity but we provide tea lights in lanterns and solar-powered lights. If you’re keen to be very green and car-free, we can arrange pick-ups from the nearby train stations of Exeter, Honiton or Whimple.
We have hot showers and flushing lavatories a short walk from the yurts as well as a camp toilet on site. There’s a standpipe with fresh water and each yurt has a camp kitchen with bottled gas stove, crockery, glassware and cutlery all provided. Or why not try cooking over your camp fire?
Our meadows are car-free but we can drive your luggage to the yurt in our farm Landrover. There’s parking onsite and we are fully insured.
